So after I excited exclaimed that I was running last week, I suddenly… err… stopped running =P haha
What have I been doing instead?
What I do best and what comes close to my sole purpose in life… eating! =D
This past Saturday I had dinner with three Fabulous Female Asian Bloggers (FFAB). We were aiming for dinner at the Boiling Crab, but with a nearly 2 hour wait, we decided to defect to the Boathouse, which serves similar fare.
Luckily, the girls and I were on the same page about crawfish… PASS. Too much work for very little reward. We instead opted for 1lb of mussels, 4lbs of shrimp, 4 pieces of corn on the cob, sweet potato fries, and 2 orders of garlic bread. Yes, I love dining with girls who know how to eat!
Check us out looking all nice n clean before diving into the grub. And this is the aftermath…
The mussels were fresh and delicious and the shrimp was buttery and garlicky with a nice spicy kick. The only thing missing was a little tangy lemony zest. Otherwise, it was a great meal with great company. Afterwards, we made our way to the Yogurtland across the street for a little treat. Anita and I were too full from our seafood feast so we sat out on the froyo round. Sad face.
On Sunday, I met up with the Sandwich to try new eats in the San Gabriel Valley. Our usual haunts have been Mei Long Village for their xiaolongbao and fried rice with pork and preserved veggies, and most recently, we’ve been consistently going to 101 Noodle Express for their beef roll and fried dumplings.

This time, we thought we’d try something new. Cheryl sent us an article from the LA Times about this place called the Happy Kitchen, which incidentally is right next door to Mei Long Village. Their food sounded fantastic. We met up for lunch on Sunday afternoon and excitedly poured over the menu. If you’re thinking of trying this place out, be forewarned that the owners do not speak English. Also, the menu doesn’t have descriptions of the dishes. We resorted to pointing at some pictures that were posted up at the front window and choosing dishes that sounded familiar. This is our spread.
Yeah, I know.. it’s a lot of food for 3 people! It was one of those days when you’re starved and everything looks good. We had no idea we ordered this much! We were just marking the paper menu! And actually, they mistakenly gave us an extra dish! So, it was 8 dishes total. We had the pork sour nappa cabbage soup, their beef roll, their green scallion pancake, their fried tofu (notice a fried theme here? ;), a minced pork noodle dish, their tea marinated chicken, and two orders of diff kinds of dumplings (leek and something else).
Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with their food. Their beef roll was just ok, not orgasmically AWESOME like the beef roll served at 101 Noodle. Their soup reminded me and Cheryl of a dish that our parents often make. The tofu was overcooked. The noodles were not bad, but not spectacular either. The green scallion pancake (one of my absolute favorite things to eat) lacked any kind of flavor except for oil. The dumplings were juicy but they were a bit bland. And their chicken was just ok. We left the Happy Kitchen feeling most unhappy and it won’t be a surprise when I say I wouldn’t recommend the Happy Kitchen and I probably won’t be going back.
For now… 101 Noodle reigns supreme!
Before I move on, here’s a pic of the Sandwich in a scary ass underground parking garage… cause we like taking pics in creepy garages =P We spent an hour or so talking before we actually left!
In non-eating related news… I’ve been given the awesome opportunity to try out and review two really cool products!
I’ll be trying them both out during my runs this week and I’ll be posting up both a review and a giveaway next week! So keep an eye out for that =)
Hope everyone is doing well and eating a lot healthier than I have been.
Happy running all!

I’m currently entered into the San Francisco Marathon’s February Challenge which called for runners to write about how they fell in love with running. I submitted the story I wrote for my “About the Girl” page =) and I’m 1 out of 20 other entries.
I’ve sadly had to drop a race (Ave of Giants) due to some exorbitant and unexpected car expenses, and winning a free race registration to the San Francisco half marathon would really help me out! It’s the last race I HAVE to do to complete the California Dreamin’ series. So, I’d truly appreciate your help! There are two ways you can vote:
1) You can tweet out to THESFMARATHON “@THESFMARATHON I vote for #13!”
Or
2) You can visit their Facebook page, become a fan and write on their wall that you vote for #13 =)
Many thanks in advance! =)
Update: Thanks to everyone who voted for me! I am so super, super appreciative for your guys’ support. It really meant a lot to me =) It was a close race with #11 but unfortunately he won by only a handful of votes =(
When I had initially entered the contest, I didn’t know that it would be a voting type of thing. I thought that the winner would be chosen a panel that would pick the story they liked best. I didn’t find out until late this afternoon that it would be a voting contest. So I apologize for the late notice and I’m so grateful for everyone who scrambled to get their votes in. Thanks again, everyone! =)

Just a short entry for now because I have a busy week ahead of me. I’ve got a couple of out of town guests coming in, a crazy work schedule, Chinese New Year celebrations to go to, and of course, Valentine’s day. Can’t wait for a more normal week!
So here’s my cheat entry! The theme this week seems to be Champion goodies! Everyone’s giving out Champion stuff =) Hey, Champion, I wanna give some of your awesome stuff away, too! =) Hit me up!
