I only have one other entry with a similar title. It happened back in April and it was a set of speedwork.

This time around, it was a long run… which to me is infinitely more disappointing.

My legs just haven’t recovered from the tempo I did on Sunday, if you can believe it. It was definitely a hard run so a little bit of me isn’t toooooo disappointed that I couldn’t perform today. But I’m now a bit stressed out that I can’t get in the rest of my training schedule before LB hits.

Up until now, I’ve taken a somewhat free flowing approach to my runs. A week of training didn’t necessarily start on Sunday and end on Saturday. My general guidelines were to at least get my long run in by Sunday or Monday, and to get in the other two runs with at least a day of recovery in between. But as you can see, I’m well beyond my self-imposed limits. It’s Tuesday and I still haven’t done my long run.

So, I had to bust out Outlook and schedule in the rest of my runs. At this point, I had to cut out a run to make everything fit in perfectly again. Since I’ve been doing my speedwork pretty religiously these past few weeks and since speedwork are runs I can consistently hit at my goal time, I decided to kick out the set of 6x400m I had scheduled for Week 7. It’s more important for me to hit my tempos at this point (I think).

Today, I’m going to stretch, stretch, stretch and rest. I’m going to ice my calves, which were the cause of my DNF today, and possibly spend some time in the jacuzzi tonight. I’m gonna try to go to bed at a reasonable hour (my aim is to sleep for at least 7 hours), wake up at 5am, and restart my 10 miler by 6am. According to my time goals, I should be done at around 8am.

Keep your fingers crossed!
