I’m pooped.
I’m seriously, seriously tired. OMG I AM SO TIRED.
Did you get that I am tired? =) haha
So, tonight I did my 6 mile long run, which I should have done yesterday, but since I was at my parents’ house pretty much the whole day, I couldn’t squeeze it in. When I started the run, my legs felt heavy and sluggish, like they hadn’t run in a very long time, when in reality, it’s only been 2 days =) haha About half a mile into it, I started to really get into the run.
Now, I usually run my long runs in Zone 3, which keeps me in the 13-14 min/mi pace range. But since I had 2 days of rest, I figured… I can run this hard. So that was the plan, run hard for as long as it feels good.
Here’s how it all ticked off =)
Split 1: 11:42
Split 2: 11:29
Split 3: 13:03 (herrrrrrre come the hills!)
Split 4: 11:41
Split 5: 12:40 (and they’re baaaaaaack)
Split 6: 11:49
Total Time: 1:12:34
Average Pace: 12:04
Calories Burned: 707
Avg HR: 161
Shoes: Asics Evolution
I did my usual 5:1 interval. I’m proud to say that there were a few running intervals where I maintained about a 10:30 pace =O Shocker! But most of the time I was hoovering around an 11:15 pace. Not too shabby! =) I was a bit scared once I hit mile 3 that perhaps I had gone out too hard and that I might bonk out during the last half of the run, but magically, my legs had enough in them to finish strong! Yay for stronger legs and a stronger core! I could totally feel the difference.
When I got home, I quicky made myself a PBJ and drank a gazillion gallons of water while I waited to recover from my run. It took about 1.5 hours before I felt somewhat ready to tackle my P90X workout of the day: Cardio X.
Since I normally don’t do my long runs on Mondays, just a short recovery run, Cardio X usually isn’t that bad of a workout. But after a hard 6 mile effort? Yesh… bad. Cardio X nearly killed me today. I was literally dripping in sweat during the workout, and now I’m completely spent.
I don’t know how I’m gonna do my speedwork tomorrow + Shoulders and Arms + Ab Ripper X. I feel tired just looking at it!

Quick question, do you run for a while (20-30 minutes) before starting intervals or do you start with intervals from the beginning?

Hey, Jen! I start off with a running interval right away, but I usually think of that interval as my warm up and I don’t really go out as fast as I would like. Usually, toward the end of that interval my legs feel pretty warmed up and I’m ready to sink into the run. =) Hope this helps!
