Ok, really, just three reviews =)
I’m back from vacation, but the vacation posts will have to wait a day or two. We left with almost 2000 pictures and I still have to sort through them. So for now, you’ll have to settle with some lingering race posts =)
1. My Playlist: AWESOME. It was perfect. Although, I have to say, I prolly need to change up my audio reminder to eat because its effectiveness has worn off. I think it’s because I had it on my playlist during training runs even though I didn’t need to eat and so I kinda started tuning them out. My bad! Otherwise, I loved every single song that came on. My faves on the list?
- Glee Cast – It’s My Life/Confession (wish I had this on more than once)
- Glee Cast – Don’t Stop Believing
- Metro Station – Shake It
- Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
- Three 6 Mafia – Shake My
- Nikki French – Total Eclipse of the Heart
- Christina Aguilera – Fighter (of course! It’s my fight song :) )
Some of these are oldies, but goodies. And Glee songs… need I say more? =)
2. Long Beach Half Marathon: Long Beach and Surf City both hold a special place in my heart. Surf City means a lot to me because it was my first half marathon ever (and a terrible one at that) and Long Beach is special because I count it as the FIRST race I did with proper training and because it holds my current PR. I haven’t been able to beat it yet, mostly due to inconsistent training and injuries… but there’s hope for that next year! Anyway, I don’t remember enjoying Long Beach as much as I did this year. I guess last year there were a lot of things that kinda stressed me out… like my Garmin fritzing out and all the pressure I was putting on myself to hit 2:30. This year, I didn’t expect much from myself and I ended up doing even better than I thought I would. I think this may be a key component for future races ;)
3. Nike Vomeros+ 4: I got these babies less than 2 weeks before the race, and it took a good 24 miles of running before they felt primed and ready for the race. The verdict?
They worked like a dream on race day, especially with the blue SuperFeet insoles. I did feel a little niggling in my left IT band during the first few miles, but it disappeared mid-race as I got warmed up. It never once caused me any problems, and I didn’t need to stop and stretch AT ALL. Compare this to the San Diego RnR Marathon just a few months earlier when I had to stop and stretch every other mile… It’s a miracle!!! =D I feel hopeful that I can put my IT band issues behind me. I think that I now have the tools to keep the injury at bay (proper shoes, the Stick, foam roller, cross-training). Let’s hope this actually happens and isn’t just wishful thinking!
So, that’s it for now on the race front. I had 3 major races this year, Surf City Half Marathon (2/1), San Diego RnR Marathon (5/31/09), and finally, Long Beach Half Marathon (10/11/09). I have no other races scheduled this year, and the only races I have penciled into my calendar for 2010 is the LA Marathon (March), Mud Run (June), and the San Francisco Half Marathon (July, to complete my CA Dreamin’ Series). I’m entertaining doing another 5k and a 10k since I don’t have a PR for that yet. But we’ll see how it all goes =)
